Fores Golf Society

CONSTITUTION (Updated November 2008)

1. Name of Society

The Society shall be known as the ‘Fores R Us Golf Society’


2. Objectives

The Society will promote the playing of golf at all standards by encouraging members to partake in various arranged competitions and events throughout the season.


3. Membership

a) Membership will be open to any bonafide nominees who are introduced by a current full member.  

b) Application for membership shall be by letter or e-mail through the Committee and will be limited only by the maximum numbers agreed.  New members shall be proposed by a member of the society and seconded by a member of the committee.

c) Resignations from the Society shall be by letter or via an e-mail to a member of the Committee.


4. Finance

a) Annual Subscriptions shall be paid to the Society Treasurer by the end of January of the season as decided by the Committee and agreed by a quorum of the members at the Annual General Meeting.

b) EDS Sports and Social Club subsidy.  The Society is entitled to claim a subsidy from EDS Sports and Social Club (SSC) to help to fund our events. The subsidy is up to 25% of the cost of the event for SSC members and one guest each.  The Treasurer will apply for and keep a record of subsidies on behalf of the Society members who may claim these back from the costs of a future event.


5. Funds

In the event of the dissolution of the society, the funds, Assets and Properties of the society shall be distributed as directed by the Committee to the fully paid up members.  The definition of a fully paid up member shall be a member that has paid full subscriptions by 30 January of the current season.


6. Royal & Ancient Golf Club/English Golf Union

a) The Society agrees to abide by the Rules of Golf as laid down by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.

b) The Society agrees to abide by the Rules of Amateur Status as laid down by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.

c) The Society recognises that the English Golf Union is the governing body for men’s amateur golf within England and as such recognises its authority to govern the game.

d) The Society agree to accept the conditions as laid down by the English Golf Union in respect of the English Golf Union Registered Golf Society Scheme and furthermore agree to adopt such changes as may be determined by the English Golf Union.


7. Society Officers and Committee

a) The Society shall appoint a Management Committee of Honorary Officers to run the Society by way of proposal and seconding and a vote by the members at an AGM.

b) Officers to be appointed by election shall be Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Handicap Secretary and Competitions Secretary.  No person shall hold more than one of these posts at the same time.

c) The positions of Competitions Secretary and Handicap Secretary shall be for a minimum of two years.

d) The post of Treasurer cannot be held by any one person for a continuous period of more than 3 years.

e) A Society Captain shall be elected by a membership vote each year.  The Captain will not be a member of the Managing Committee.


8. Competitions and Handicapping

a) The Society shall organise its competitions and control handicapping under the authority delegated to them by the English Golf Union.

b) The committee shall determine the conditions that appertain to each competition and supply all members and the English Golf Union with details of these conditions.

c) The Competition and Handicapping Committee shall keep full records of competitions held and handicaps of members as determined by the English Golf Union and these records will be made available to the EGU upon request.

      
9. Discipline/Sanction Procedures

In the event of any infraction of the Rules of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, the Governing Body of England or the Society, the Committee shall have the following options:

a) Ask that the Chairman investigate the infraction and report back to the Committee at the earliest possible time.

b) Ask the Chairman to write to the member(s) concerned to justify their actions and then report back to the Committee.

c) Ask the member(s) to be called before the Committee and asked to explain their actions.

Should c) be selected the member has the right to appeal and may call witnesses as necessary.  It will be the Committees responsibility to investigate the infraction/complaint and adjudicate according to the Rules and also the Objectives of the society as stated at paragraph 2 above.
