2.Presentation of Prizes
Prizes were awarded to the winners of the Fores
competitions:
Player of the Year – Stu Murphy
Appleton Trophy – Tom Green
3.Treasurer’s Report
Paul
Humpries presented a written summary of the Society’s finances. These show a loss of over £200 during the year,
mainly due to two expensive events being heavily subsidised. There were 23 members paying the new
subscription rate of £30.
Paul
proposed that the £30 rate be continued next year. Chris Wilson then proposed that the rate be
increased to £35 so that we can continue our policy of playing at better
courses and the volume of prizes be maintained.
This proposal was carried unanimously.
It was also agreed that if finances become stretched next year, the
number of Nearest the Pin prizes be reduced.
Paul also clarified that the £5 additional cost that non members pay at
events is on top of the cost that the course charges us, not the subsidised
rate that members pay.
The
Chairman expressed appreciation for Paul’s work looking after our funds during
the year.
4.Election of Committee Members for 2025
No new nominations
for Society Officers were received, so most of the current office holders
agreed to remain in post for a further year, other than Chris Wilson who, after
several years co-organising the Society’s events, has decided to stand down. The Chairman thanked Chris for his
efforts. Rob Lang will continue to work
with Dave Grimstone next year but further support from other members may be
required at times. The Society’s
Officers for 2025 are:
Chairman Glynn
Burgin
Vice-Chairman Robin Lang
Treasurer Paul Humpries
Comp. Secretaries Dave Grimstone & Rob Lang
Handicap
Secretary Andy Pollard
5.Venues and events for 2025
The
decision to generally play better quality courses this year found full approval
of the members. Dave Grimstone gained agreement
of members that £60 was an acceptable price for a very good venue. Recent low numbers at events in July and
August were felt to be due to holidays, however members preferred that events
should still be scheduled for these months. Members were asked to point out potential
attendance issues when the playing schedule is presented. They were also asked to suggest good courses
to the Comp Secs.
6.Any Other Business
Stu
Murphy suggested that the WHS should take priority over society handicaps. The Handicap Secretary is asked to further
consider how this might work.
